Rising Fear of Death Due to COVID-19

I would like to begin by quoting an incident in my neighborhood.

There is a family in my colony consisting of grandparents, parents, an aunt and two children. Few months back, the grandparents tested positive for COVID and were admitted in a government hospital for 10 days. After they returned from the hospital, the family members’ reaction was unexpected. They were treated like untouchables because of the fear that what if they spread the virus to their family members. The grandparents were evicted from their house although they begged the family members to let them stay as they had nowhere to go. However, all their efforts ended up in vain.

The incident was heart-rending and I can’t express how it feels deep inside me. The deadly virus has made the human race very cruel and inhumane. People behave in a vicious manner regardless of their education qualification. The virus has caused behavioural changes on human beings immensely.

This is just unbearable!!!

Ethical behaviours seem to be forgotten by people due to COVID-19. One could witness the changes in the mentality  among children, younger ones, adults, parents and the society, indeed!

Fear is a common emotion among many people across the globe due to COVID-19 pandemic. Since the sudden and rapid outbreak of the virus in India, the frontline warriors have been working day and night to control the situation by putting their lives at risk to save the lives of the people. This harsh situation triggers severe anxieties, stress & mainly the fear of death. Even a common cold and cough is triggering immense fear. As a consequence, people are suffering from chronic Mental Health Disorder. There are even suicide cases registered which is also a reason for the increased death rate.

A few causes of such anxiety are: getting isolated, not being able to socialize, and loss of interaction.

The Healthcare sector wasn’t prepared for such a rapid surge in Corona cases. Lack of oxygen supply and beds is a common scene in many hospitals. Gradually, medical staff are quitting their jobs because of the pressure, fear, family concerns, and the inability to cope up with increasing cases.

Nowadays, people are becoming introverts and anti-social. Children are becoming introverted, and they seem not to have any interest in being social and establishing closeness with  family, relatives, friends, and teachers. As schools and colleges are closed, human interactions are very less. Children have been confined between four walls because of the spread of the virus.

People including scientists can’t predict the gene of COVID-19 since this virus is mutant in nature.

However, to eradicate  the fear, family plays an important role to support them mentally and emotionally. Love, affection, empathy, and care may reduce the fear of death among people. Strong positive mindset, continuous support from the people around us, proper precautions, sanitization, and hygiene will help us to defeat this virus.

According to me, Yes! COVID-19 is a serious matter of concern, but if we take proper precautions, we can save ourselves and  others’ lives too.

At last, to win this war, we all have to stand united and battle against the NOVEL COVID-19.
