PASSION FOR LANGUAGE

“To have another language is to possess a second soul.” – Charlemagne

English education has made dramatic changes in various fields. The ESL (English as a Second Language) – students who chose metro cities for their higher studies itself shows the significance of language in their career. The tremendous growth of English is being witnessed by us over decades and is predominant. One cannot think of his/her career without the international language. Academic performance depends not only on students’ competency to understand the concepts, but also on their capability to comprehend written and spoken language that is English.

Let’s look at some of the familiar reasons as to why ESL students have strange feelings towards English:

1. English is an international language.

2. The medium of education in most of the State Board schools is the regional language.

3. From childhood, most of the ESL students have been told that English is very difficult and impossible to master.

4. Mother tongue influence is a hurdle to learn the foreign language.

5. An intimidating image of English has been created since infancy by the teachers while stressing on the importance of language skills.

6. The awareness is not created amongst the students in terms of the importance of English.

Taking these reasons into account, I am now triggered with the following questions:

  • Is Cricket not a concept of England?
  • Have we not mastered the sport and won world cups?
  • Has India not provided the finest players in the field of Cricket?
  • Are we not successful in replicating western style?
  • Can you succeed in your life without any impediments in your path?

The above things have become possible when it’s done out of great interest. Passion is the key to success; it helps one to overcome the obstacles coming their way. It decides the victory of any battle.

“Nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you want to do with your life, be passionate.” – Jon Bon Jovi

For instance, Bill Gates who created Microsoft, earlier he was an amateur programmer who had a great passion towards computers when he was in 8th grade. He was able to get excused from his math class to invent early video games.

Skill, be it language, sport, computer, management, leadership and so on… Hence, it’s quite evident, you can be successful in anything you do with great passion. Then why not English? Think of it…

“Passion is the genesis of genius.” —Tony Robbins
