How hard do you push yourself ?

I was a bit bewildered about how to begin with this. Maybe because I am not an experienced writer or just because I have never written anything before. Anyway, I really felt many difficulties straight from the beginning.

Who am I? Just an ordinary boy like you, with a handful of dreams and wishes to accomplish. There were a lot of obstacles in my way, there are still so many and for sure there will be. But now I can proudly say that I am getting over them one by one. Well, it all began just two years ago.

I was an energetic boy during my school days and never used to study at home as I really hated reading books. I spent all my time watching cartoons which eventually diverted me from the studies. Years passed and finally low scores in 10th standard actually compelled me to opt for a stream which I hated the most, Biology Science. Of course, those two years went abysmally without good friendship, sitting alone and especially watching other students studying my favorite subjects. I was realizing that a sort of depression was carving me, the only thing that made me hopeful was the support I received from parents and teachers.

I remember a time when I felt it really hard to communicate even in my mother tongue ‘Malayalam’. But, I became clear about one thing that, “change is the only constant”. After those two hard years, I reached Koshys college for my graduation.

The changes in me started reflecting with the college orientation classes. Especially among students, it’s quite obvious to seek push back from others for everything which may gradually destroy your self-confidence. I’m sure, at least half of the fellow cluster might experience the same.

Since I had no third hands, I had to push myself. Well, it isn’t that tough as you think, but doing it really needs courage and strong faith in yourself. You will be blaming yourself a lot in the beginning, but later you’ll get to know the advantage of this simple trick I’m talking about.

The orientation classes were taken by different teachers of our college. After each session, the floor was open for interaction. That was the very moment I had been waiting for and the boy with all his stage-fear showed the courage to just stand up and ask something. The timer began within my mind and only a few seconds were there to get the mic. I was anxious and nervous at the same time and knew very well that I didn’t have a question to ask. I stood up and asked for the mic with a blank mind. Being honest here, on the very first day, I even decided that I would never ever go for an attempt like this. Even then, until the final day of our orientation, I used to be one among those who asked for the mic. Most of the time, I wasn’t even aware of what to ask. But day by day, I was able to witness the transformations that were happening within me.

Once the teacher asked all the students who don’t feel enough confidence to raise their hands and the rest of them were supposed to speak something on the dais. I was the only student in the class who didn’t raise his hands. The speech wasn’t so impressive, but I did and that time I really felt happy about being odd.

I finally figured it out, my way of improving self-confidence. Opportunities won’t come and knock your door; you have to go and search for them. And I just did exactly that. Push yourself and do your best. Believe me, it’s all there within yourself. You are confident, you are courageous and you are best version of yourself. Just ask yourself and self-check.

I swear, there will be a lot of people around you who will pull you back. What can we do about that? There will be at least one person behind you who always sees your bright side and gives you hope and courage to move on.

If you can’t find any such person, all you need to do is just raise up. Don’t wait for a superhero to come and help you, “push yourself against your limitations”.

Some people say that life is full of unpredictable surprises, but I say, life is full of causes of your actions. The wheel is in your hands, and it is your decision where to drive.
